Vitaminwater (a popular drink sold with soft drinks) is currently involved in lawsuit brought
on by a Washington (D.C.)-based consumer advocacy group, the Center for Science in
the Public Interest (CSPI). The lawsuit was filed claiming the manufactures of
Vitaminwater, Coca-Cola, practiced "deceptive labeling and marketing for the soft drink,
which included claims that the drink could reduce rise for eye disease, promote healthy
joints and support 'optimal immune function.'" Vitaminwater also labeled these drinks with
words including "defense," "rescue," and "endurance".

Here is where it gets awesome... In court briefings, attorneys representing the Coca-Cola
company had a compelling defense stating that they were innocent of misleading the
public because "no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking Vitaminwater was a
healthy beverage."

I'm not sure what the most disturbing part of this story is. Is it that...

1)      The Coca-Cola company thinks it's fine to use misleading words on
      Vitaminwater?

2)      Consumers believe what is printed on Vitaminwater labels?

3)      The Coca-Cola legal defense team stats they are innocent because the
public is smart enough to know the words they print on their products are
      misleading and inaccurate?

So Shenanigans to you Vitaminwater and the Coca-Cola company! Perhaps you should
stick with producing just Coke with the equivalent of 39 grams of sugar (that's 10
teaspoons of sugar!) per can and caramel coloring that has been linked to causing
cancer. Or perhaps you should stay focused on your Diet Coke, sweetened with
aspartame, which has been linked to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Epstein-Barr, Post-Polio
Syndrome, Lyme Disease, Grave's Disease, Meniere's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease,
ALS, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), EMS, Hypothyroidism, Fibromyalgia, Lupus,
non-Hodgkins, Lymphoma, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Oh, and don't forget the
caramel coloring that has been linked to causing cancer.
Shenanigans to
Vitaminwater & The Entire
Coca-Cola Company!!
