You asked for it… You got it!

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present my next installment of Shenanigans!

The next Shenanigans Award goes to
the USDA food pyramid!!! This food pyramid was
developed in the 1970s and has significantly shaped and influenced the American diet
ever since.

The unfortunate thing is that the food pyramid was created to benefit the agricultural and
special interest groups NOT to benefit your health. This nutritional guideline was created
by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) not by the Department of Health and Human
Services.  In fact, in the very beginning stages of creating this food pyramid, the USDA
sought the advice of a panel of nutrition experts. The suggestions given by these
nutritional experts were completely disregarded when the agricultural and special interest
groups’ lobbyists got involved.
The food pyramid which has shaped nutritional
guidelines for decades was founded on corruption more than health and
nutrition.

We have all been duped into believing this was a healthy way of eating.  Not only is this
diet lacking in adequate nutrition, it is also hazardous to your health. Take a look at the
graph below which illustrates obesity trends in the United States. It is no coincidence that
obesity rates began to skyrocket when the USDA food pyramid was first put into action
around 1977.

Clearly it's time for a completely revised food pyramid. Above is a diagram of a food
pyramid offered by Dr. Joel Fuhrman (author of Super Immunity and Eat To Live) which is
based on nutritional value and not benefiting industries and special interests. You can
change your life by changing what you eat.   Recognizing the USDA's food pyramid is a
sham and disregarding every part of it is a great place to start.

Perhaps simply eating more fresh vegetables really is the secret to vibrant health. Give it
a try and find out.
